Each of these pictures has a special meaning to me.
The first I painted was on my recent trip to NYC. The last two mornings, I savored a delightful Mexican latte in the boutique hotel's cozy lobby. There was a feeling of building energy before a new beginning. The quiet before the storm.
That second cup is from a photo I took when my family gathered at a sweet Chicago establishment, Goddess and the Baker. It was in the middle of quarantine — and as everyone knows, coffee shops are essential businesses. Our family gathered on the patio together just a couple weeks before the move to North Carolina. Change and uncertainty were in the air. And coffee made it more palatable.
Today's cup makes me think of the Starbucks Roasteries. That dark rim and the well-appointed details... My oldest daughter worked her way through college as one of their baristas. Because of her, I've tried almost everything on their menu. Plus, I've visited all 3 US locations — Seattle, Chicago, NY. There's a nostalgia to those memories and gratitude for how good Starbucks was to Alina throughout quarantine, even when she couldn't work, the paychecks came every two weeks...
Family and friends laughing together. Bellies warmed by more than just a drink. Memories made. New beginnings launched.
All brought to you by...
Coffee.
