September Smiles

September is a season of endings AND beginnings. Summer already feels like a distant memory. And at the same time, there's something tender and fresh in the air.

We've finished the Costco-sized bag of bird food for the feeder, the hydrangeas are drying, and the temperature holds at a comfortable 70 degrees.

My youngest 3 are back in school, giving my life a pleasant, structured rhythm. Driving Cali to her new high school on a community college campus, taking photos at volleyball games, and editing my student's college essays.

I got in a relaxing morning on kayaks with my long-time friend (and former roommate) Stacy. We paddled, basked in the sun, and rehashed our summers.

I took advantage of the milder weather and painted the ceiling of our back porch — just call me Michelangelo!

My youngest, Calista, and her volleyball team set out on a team-building hike - and I joined them as their unofficial photographer. We walked on one of my favorite trails, explored nature, and enjoyed some gorgeous views of the lake.

In my business, I held my first masterclass and first "Complete Your Essay in a Weekend" workshop for high school seniors. (If you know any students needing help, send them my way!)

And one of the questions I always ask my essay writers is "So what? Why does this story matter?"

I'm asking myself the same question as I look back on September.

My month mattered because I honored the old (getting out on the lake one last time) and welcomed the new (all the activities within Easier College Essays). I both slowed down and sped up. I stopped to smell — and eat — the food truck grilled cheese along the way.

September was a gift. I'm thankful I opened and enjoyed it.

Until next month,

P.S. I have not one, but TWO, 2023 calendars coming up. Let me know if you'd like a sneak peak and you might just convince me to share them in the next week or two...
