Outdoorsy October
Hello, October!
Speaking of essays, I realized NOW is the perfect time for up-to-date professional headshots for my website. After all, essays are a "fall sport." So capturing some "color" in the leaves makes perfect sense.
I reached out to my local friend and photographer Mark who loves to shoot indoors. Thankfully, he agreed to head out on a breezy Saturday morning by Lake Norman and got some dramatic and vibrant photos, but still not business material.
I'm trying to think of what O-C-T-O-B-E-R stands for.
Perhaps it's Outdoors Calls...and I have no idea what T-O-B-E-R stands for though. Let me know if you know!
I've never done a "ghost tour" before. But when I saw a local one offered in nearby downtown Davidson (home of Davidson College where Steph Curry played college ball), I couldn't resist! The bonus was that our adventure was led by a homeschooled senior who researched the stories and wove a wicked set of tales. It was a scary-good time! (And — DANG — would I like to help him write those essays for college applications!)

I did the first round of photos during an Asheville adventure with Greg (who was in town for less than 48 hours), Mike, and Calista. We captured some breathtaking Blue Ridge Mountain views and Greg served up his best camera work for a headshot or two. It was a start, but I quickly realized I could do better. (No offense to Greg. It's just that capturing a great headshot is tougher than it looks!)

Would the third time be the charm?!?
I connected with Kathleen Martin, a local photographer one of my essay-writing seniors was using for her senior photo shoot. Kathleen asked if I would be getting my makeup done for our time together. (Would I? Gulp. Sure!)
We laughed at how many of my photos looked like "senior shots"...but it worked for me! I'm sharing a couple of the raw images over on social media this week...so come let me know which ones are your favorites! That one with the aubergine background may be my #1 choice, but it's a tough call!
To wrap up my outdoorsy October, I set out with Clover and my security detail (Calista in her Halloween costume), and we tracked through the local
neighborhoods for a mound o' treats.
