Jolly July

Although I already had a pretty full calendar for July, I declared it a "Rest-and-Digest" month.
.
Only when I started to slow down did I realize how burned out I was.
.
I gave myself a Fallow Friday each week — time to do anything other than my graphic design work. I played hooky...and loved it!
.
I'm thankful I had a theme. It was an anchor point through all the adventures with Claire, our 15 yo French exchange student who arrived July 3rd.
.
We celebrated Independence Day by taking in a parade and fireworks. We took swings at TopGolf (our fave!), floated on the river, toured an alpaca farm, and visited some funky new museums.
.
The week after we tearfully left Calista (my youngest) and Claire at the Atlanta airport to journey to France together, I embarked on a Creative Retreat. One of the best ways to get the creativity flowing again is to change environments. So I bunked up with lots of new furry friends and enjoyed a temporary home-away-from-home in downtown Charlotte.
.
The last week of the month brought a quick adventure in Maine with Zoe and her bestie Helen. We hiked Acadia National Park, captured local bald eagles and seals with the camera, ate fresh lobster, and stayed in the cutest cottage! These two peas in a pod showed me that travel truly is better with a friend -- so I'm now accepting volunteers to join me on my next adventure!*

In a sweet wrap-up, Todd and I drove back down to Atlanta to pick Calista up from her France trip. She joyfully reunited with Clover, then proceeded to sleep the rest of the car ride.
.
Clearly, my body was not at rest in July. Yet the daily focus of "rest and digest" kept bringing my focus back to serving my deeper needs. As a result, I'm excited to welcome August with a new sense of purpose and creativity.
Here's to a fabulous rest of summer!
.
XO,
.
